What is Biokinetics?
- The rehabilitation begins with an initial assessment of the body’s posture, functional ability, muscle strength, overall flexibility, core stability, fitness ability and injury limitations.
- Thereafter, the exercise prescription is based on assessment outcomes.
- The rehabilitation aims to return the individual to pre-injury functional ability and strength.
- Rehabilitation prevents future injury to joints concerned and decreases pain and discomfort.
Biokinetic Services:
- Orthopedic Injury:
- Injuries to any joints of the body (generally indicated by pain) may be rehabilitated. e.g. back, neck, pelvis, knees, shoulders
- Orthopedic rehabilitation includes paraplegic patients.
- Rehabilitation is also used for muscle or ligament damage.
- Any and all sports injuries may also be assessed and rehabilitated using Biokinetics
- Rehabilitation may also be used as an alternative to surgery in most instances.
- Rehab lasts approximately 2-6 months depending on injury.
- Chronic Illness Management:
- Introducing exercise to manage, lower and control risk factors of a specific illness.
- These include Previous Heart attack, Heart Disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, pregnancy, Fibromyalgia, nervous disorders, Osteoporosis, Osteopenia etc.
- Corporate Health Tests
- Health risk screening tool used by many South African Companies as part of a wellness package offered to employees
- Assessment includes cholesterol check, Blood Pressure check, Glucose assessment, Step up test (assess fitness capacity), strength test, flexibility test, BMI (body mass index) and Waist-to-hip ratio.
Additional Services at Xtreme Fitness
The Biokineticist is also responsible for conducting a comprehensive health assessment for all new and current Xtreme members. This includes:
- Cholesterol test
- Glucose test
- Detailed weight assessment indicating body water, muscle mass, fat mass, fat percentage, resting metabolic rate and Body Mass Index (BMI)
- Lung function test
- Detailed circumference measurements of the body are taken as a basis to monitor progress
- Resting ECG (assesses regularity, rate and rhythm of heart beat)
- Stress ECG (assesses regularity, rate and rhythm of heart beat while exercising)
- VO2max (fitness capacity test on the bicycle)
Information about client wellbeing and progress is KEY for trainers at Xtreme fitness. As such, personal trainers regularly schedule the following assessments every 8 weeks during training. Trainers alternate between assessments to provide a professional service.
The full comprehensive assessment is only repeated annually for ALL members of Xtreme Fitness.
